Refinished Vanities Can Add Huge Value

We often try to talk people out of refinishing countertops, but in some instances it really makes sense. Heavily used counters, or formica that is badly damaged usually aren’t good candidates for refinishing, and with the prices of granite and installation at rock bottom right now, for many owner-occupant applications we are actually sending people to our favorite granite company rather than try to win their business.

We are happiest when our customers are happy, so we try to do right by them even if it means less work for us. That being said, the cost of granite or any other solid surface option is still three or four times the cost of refinishing. So in some instances refinishing really does make sense. One example of this is houses that are about to be put on the market. With proper upkeep, a refinished countertop can look good for years. And for the seller, a new looking countertop can add huge curb appeal.

The photo below shows a small bathroom vanity in an extra bathroom that we refinished in conjunction with a fiberglass shower stall. This worked out really well for the homeowner who is about to list this property. As we were already on property, she got a great deal on this little vanity and sink. The fixture looks brand new at a fraction the cost of replacement.

Small fixtures like this can be a real challenge to refinish because the spray gun often has problems with the angels, but we’ve got our process down, and everything looks perfect.
