Approximately 30% of fiberglass fixtures are not installed properly with supporting foam underneath. Over time, the flex and weight of people showering and bathing can cause the fixture to crack, typically on the bottom. Fortunately there is a fix for this that costs a tiny fraction of replacing the entire fixture. We shore up the fixture by injecting foam into the bottom, then install a custom made, unbreakable and uncrackable inlay over the fixture’s entire bottom area. Today we installed one of these at a rental property where the owner had previously hired another company to fix the problem. This company did a good job supporting the fixture, but glued down a cheap, thin bathmat over their fix. After a year or so, this failed. In the photo above, the left picture is of the tub when we first inspected it. The middle photo is after we removed the glued down bathmat, and the final picture is of our final work. In order to install the inlay, the bottom must be thoroughly cleaned. That is why the area around the inlay in white. The surrounding area remains dirty. Inlays are available in either white or bone. This fixture was somewhere in between white and bone so is more visible than most inlays typically are.
