Tile Wall Surrounds

Posted by:

Sometimes we try to talk people out of refinishing their tile wall surrounds. If you have glossy white 4 inch porcelain tile, 90% of the time it will clean up nicely with some elbow grease and you’ll save a bunch of money. However, textured tile, or undesirable colored tile often are good candidates for refinishing. This recent job was both textured and a nasty brown color. The tub also had rust spots, and even rust holes that we filled with ...

The 90% Rule

Posted by:

When we meet with customers, we like to tell them about our 90% rule. Bathroom refinishing is not a perfect process. It is done by hand, by a human – not a machine. The setting is a bathroom, not a dust free paint booth. The fixture is not brand new, but something that has likely been used for decades, and is probably dirty and damaged.

Its not a perfect situation, and therefore not a perfect process, no matter how skilled the ...

Fixing Sloppy Work

Posted by:

We just wrote a case study on our most recent repair of another refinisher’s work. Keep in mind that we were called immediately after the other guy had left and the bathtub had never even been used in between. This happens more often than you think. CLICK HERE to read the case study.

The Difference Refinishing Can Make

Posted by:

People often ask to see before and after pictures of the most disgusting tubs we’ve done. Its probably the shock element that interests them the most. Most tubs we do are old and worn, but not necessarily gross and disgusting. However, now and then, such a tub does come along — usually in low rise walk up rental apartment building in town. We did this one yesterday and we made it look very close to brand new at a tiny ...

All-In-One Cultured Marble Vanities

Posted by:

The best candidate for bathroom countertop refinishing is definitely cultured marble or composite all-in-one units. These seamless counter/sink pieces really refinish to look 95% new, and are a perfect solution for either owner-occupant, rental, or fixing a place up for sale.

We’ve had home sellers that have had their property on the market for 4 months with no offers, and after they make minor improvements such as refinishing all their tubs and old/worn countertops, they are rewarded with a quick sale. ...

Benefits Of Our Commercial Coating

Posted by:

Our “standard residential” coating is a bit of a misnomer because it is the best performing, strongest, and fastest curing residential grade coating on the market for bathtub refinishing. This amazing product allows you to use your bathtub 3 hours after we leave. In fact, that is only because our caulk takes 3 hours to dry. The coating itself is shower-ready within 2 hours.

With all that being said, we ...

Inlays Permanently Fix Cracked Fiberglass Fixtures

Posted by:

Approximately 30% of fiberglass fixtures are not installed properly with supporting foam underneath. Over time, the flex and weight of people showering and bathing can cause the fixture to crack, typically on the bottom. Fortunately there is a fix for this that costs a tiny fraction of replacing the entire fixture. We shore up the fixture by injecting foam into the bottom, then install a custom made, unbreakable and uncrackable inlay over the fixture’s entire bottom area. Today we installed ...

Refinished Terrazzo Shower Pans @ H-Power Plant

Posted by:

This week we refinished some terrazzo shower pans in the locker rooms at the H-Power plant, located at Campbell Industrial Park, where most of Oahu’s household waste is burned, creating energy. Terrazzo is a composite material containing marble, granite, quartz and glass chips that is poured in place with a cement-like binder. It is too porous to work well in showers, but is also very difficult to remove. The officials at H-Power turned to us to refinish their terrazzo pans ...

Availability of New Commercial Coating

Posted by:

Oahu Tub is pleased to announce the availability of a new commercial grade coating. As with any coating there are pluses and minus. The plus of this coating is that it is more durable than our standard coating. We caution homeowners to not read into this too much as our standard coating is already a premium coating, is very durable, and more practical for many applications. Our new coating, however, is rated for 24/7 water immersion. It is used in ...

How Trying To Save Money Can Cost Money

Posted by:

DIY kits don’t work. We’re not just saying this to get your business. Many of our customers will tell you that we’ve talked them out of doing work that is often unnecessary such as tile refinishing (often a good cleaning with a product like Diamond Magic can work wonders).

If DIY kits really worked well nobody would need our services. Truth be told, a skilled weekend warrior might be able to get a DIY refinishing kit to look good. However, it ...
